About Me
The History Behind My Passion
Hello people and thanks for wanting to know more
about me. My name is Marquis and I was born in raised
in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am twenty-two years of
age and have been playing drums since the tender age
of nine. But if you want to get really deep, it all started
at the age of two.
That's when I was crawling or
walking not sure which one but lol..yeah. I was pulling
pots and pans out the cabinet and driving my mom nuts.
It was easy for me to get them out because my mom
had the pots in the bottom cabinet so easy for me. I
never took any lessons or any type of learning from
anyone. I started playing by ear and picking up on
everything that I heard. Playing drums was given to me
by the Grace of God. It was a gift from him to me.
Thats why I can't see myself playing for any other type
of music.
Something my mom always have told me, God
didn't give you your talent to use it outside the church.
He gave me gifted talent to play in church. I was raised
and brung up in the church atmosphere so I wouldn't
have the appetite to play for any other types of music.
For most people playing drums is a hobbie but for me its
more than that. Its a passion to me. I love playing
drums like I love my daughter. I've played for The
Midwest District Mass Choir, The National Pentecostal
Choir and currently playing for the Grand Rapids
Pentecostal Choir.
I also play for a group called Angelic
Voices of Praise (A.V.P.). I can remember when I
started off and I wasnt old enough to play fully. I used
to get so upset and so angry. But now that I look back
on that, I'm glad that it happened like that. Why? I'll
tell you why.
Simply because it made understand what
it meant to know your position in certain situations.
Then I didnt understand that but now as I've gotten
older I do. Playing drums theres situations that are
going to come against you. Just simply be humble and
know your position in some circumstances. Sometimes
its just not fair but thats when you just stay humble and
things are going to come to you.
That's something one
of my favorite musicians told me. Stay humble and just
sit back and let things come to you. I did that and now I
am respected as a drummer everywhere I go to play.
Never let anyone bring you down from whatever it
might be that you play. If you play the violin, don't let
anyone keep you from pursuing that. Keep your head up
and go for the goal. If there is anything else that you
might want to know about me, please email me at:
